Hiking Seasons

Peak season for hiking in the Julian Alps is between May and October. Low-level walks are available all year round, unless, of course, there has been heavy snowfall. Expert mountaineers climb the high peaks throughout the winter – you need to be very experienced and well-equipped to consider this however.

We usually check the mountain forecast here – other sites are available of course, and it is a good idea to check multiple sources before heading high up.

The Bohinj area hosts the Wild Flower Festival in May/early June and the Hiking Festival in the autumn. Both events offer a diverse range of talks and activities for the whole family.
