“Wow what an amazing property. Beautiful, comfortable and in an idyllic location.
The weather was mainly kind to us and we made the most of it including Mostnica Gorge, walk round Lake Bohinj and Savica waterfall. We also took the short drive to Bled and walked round and above the amazing turquoise lake and visited the island. But it was great to come back for a swim in the tranquility of Lake Bohinj.
We were also lucky enough to enjoy two warm evenings where we just had to have dinner at Kramar restaurant on the lake. The dinner view was as good as it gets but the short rural walk from the house to the restaurant was bliss as well.
Thanks you Liz, it was a pleasure to stay in your beautiful home.”

“We loved our stay, the house is spacious and comfortable in a great location. Walks are literally at your doorstep. The surroundings are beautiful, alpine views from every window.
Our group of four adults could spread out and relax and congregate when we pleased. The local restaurant behind us was cute and homely, the local shop really handy only a couple of minutes walk away (open 7am-9pm) provided all our basics plus the slightly larger store near the lake.
We easily did the lake walk in 3 hours with a pit stop at the camp site bar, great pizzas. The area is abundant with flowers and butterflies, paradise. We will be back.”

“Honestly this is one of the best Airbnbs we’ve ever stayed in. Walking in we felt instantly at home.
But this home was so much more… the renovation than the owners did was so thoughtful. Keeping with the style of the property but not leaving any item unthought of.
The kitchen/lounge room was a perfect spot for hanging out and then each bedroom had space for being on your own. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking and all options for making coffee – pods, mokka, plunger. Next door restaurant is so good and a must try – in winter only Thurs-Sunday.
So close for skiing plus all the other amazing things to do in the area – hiking/exploring lake Bohinj, slap savica, lake Bled and more. And when it snowed! Oh wow – it was another land & just magic. Now we just need to come back in summer. Thank you Liz & Danny & family for sharing your wonderful home.”

“This was one of the best Airbnb experiences we’ve had! The home is even more beautiful in person. Tastefully decorated, with all new appliances- nothing was spared in the home. kitchen is fully stocked, had plenty of space and had everything we needed to feel we were in a real home away from home.
The house is perfectly located in a beautiful, sweet village next door to a wonderful restaurant and a quaint market down the road that carried most items we needed. We barely used our car because the lake is a short walk away and many hiking trails can be accessed directly from the house!
Liz and Danny happened to be around when we were at the house and they were lovely, kind hosts who offered great recommendations! We had a fantastic time, and would love to return soon.”

“The house was perfect in so many ways. The village is lovely with just enough to do locally and some nice places to eat, but not too full of tourists. The information booklet was excellent.
In the house itself we had everything we needed, a real home from home. It was beautifully decorated and really comfortable. We were 6 adults and we had plenty of space.

“Thanks again to both you and Liz for everything in the lead up to and during this short break, including having the vision (and courage!) to renovate what looked like a completely derelict building to what it is today – a first rate holiday home in a perfect central location with all the amenities you could possibly need or want just a few minutes walk from the house. We have taken many holidays homes in our time, both large and small and many abroad in numerous countries around the world and yours is up there with the best of them.
Thanks also for being on the end of the phone for messages and advice, as well as the speed of response. It was very refreshing to have someone on the same wavelength – with a “Do it Once” attitude. The information pack in the house and the corresponding information on website are also outstanding – clear, well written, accurate and up-to-date as well as being fully comprehensive.

“We had a fabulous stay at Escape to Bohinj and a family holiday to remember for years to come. The house was beautiful and felt like a home from home with everything you’d need, including umbrellas & hiking sticks! We have stayed in many holiday homes and this is amongst the best.
We loved the location. So much to do on foot we did not use our rental car at all whilst there. We visited Bled by bus which worked really well. Mostnica Gorge which is just 15 minutes walk from the house is better in our opinion than Vintgar Gorge. The hike up to the Vogel view point is not for the faint hearted but the view was so worth it.
Thank you Liz for being so helpful during the booking process and kept in touch throughout with lots of useful information. Thank you also for the welcome gifts which gave us a flavour of the local produce.”

“Escape to Bohinj is a fantastic place to stay. The village of Stara Fužina is such a great base. There is a really good Gostilna next door that serves delicious food. A good supermarket with a bakery. A beautiful lake 10 minutes walk away.
The house is very well equipped. Good bathrooms, comfy beds. The website is so useful. We made use of the interactive maps for our walks. A lot of walks can be done from the house. We had a great time. Thoroughly recommend.”

“It was great to overlap briefly with Danny. With 5 of us here and 2 cars we were able to go in different directions for activities to suit the 50s, 60s & 80 year olds. We did gorges, waterfalls, zip lines, cable car and lake walks. We took the car train to Most na Soce and had a spectacular drive back on mountain roads. We had a fabulous meal at Majerca and wonderful trout at Kramar restaurant by Lake Bohinj.”

“We spent 3 spectacular days in Bohinj and Liz went above and beyond to ensure we had all our needs met. I was travelling with my family and two kids, a 1 year old and a 4 year old. The house had all necessary amenities and even a lot of extra toys and games to keep the kids busy. The house was spacious and very well designed to make us feel at home away from home. The house even blends in with the Bohinj style.
Liz helped us a lot in giving recommendations, especially on a rainy day when the kids couldn’t do hikes. She recommended the eco hotel aqua park which was a great option for us to keep the kids active and engaged.
Would definitely recommend this place and looking forward to visiting again in the future to experience the summerish Bohinj!”

“We had a magical time ! The location was beautiful, a lovely quiet rural village feel, but also had an amazing Gostilna just next door where you could eat warm, hearty meals in friendly company and also a special ‘Michelin Gourmand’ restaurant just a few minutes walk away.
The whole property was comfortable, homely and everything to hand. The fire a big plus and the beds were extremely comfortable which is important in my book! Plenty of space for 6 to stay.
The Lake Bohinj area has so many things to explore and we ended up having some amazing walks in the snow, exploring stunning scenery and seeing nature at it’s best. Returning to a drink at the Gostilna and settling in front of the fire was then a perfect end to every day.

“A great place for 2 couples and a 3rd bedroom with 2 single beds. Good amenities and everything worked well. Large bedrooms, lounge and kitchen area with a cosy atmosphere and lovely architecture. Easy access to hiking trails.
Danny and Liz were very helpful, providing great advice on restaurants, hiking and the many questions we asked. They also let us have a late checkout so we could finish our hikes having lost a day with no luggage.

“We are 2 couples who stayed 4 nights at ‘Escape to Bohinj’. The accommodation was a wonderful introduction to beautiful Slovenia. We deliberately chose to stay in Lake Bohinj to escape the tourism of Lake Bled and were pleased we chose ‘Escape to Bohinj’. The home is well thought out providing everything needed to make one’s stay comfortable. There are 2 parking spaces directly outside the home. It is truly a home away from home.
Communication with Danny and Liz was excellent. The whole booking process was seamless. All of our enquiries before and after we booked, and during our stay were promptly answered. We were given great recommendations for day hikes, restaurants and supermarkets.
Danny and Liz were very accommodating not only allowing us to check in early (due to a very early flight arrival to Slovenia) but also to check out late. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. ‘Escape to Bohinj’ was everything we were hoping it to be.”

Out the front door, hiking, biking, and other outdoor opportunities abound. Hiking the Mostnica Gorge to Mostnice Slap, around Lake Bohinj or one of the other seemingly limitless trails Bohinj has to offer was one of our favourite activities.
This was our second stay at Escape to Bohinj and one of our challenges for the next year is when to schedule our next trip to Bohinj. Truly a five star home away from home in a five star corner of the world.”

Our family of 4 had the most amazing time at Escape to Bohinj in Easter 2024. We loved every single aspect of our stay. The peacefulness of the place, the kindness of the locals, the luxurious home that would made us feel so cosy at the end of every busy day. It was total escapism.
It took me a little while to adjust to the sound of the rushing water of the river in front of the house but it became a comforting background noise after a couple of nights.
Every single room in the house is designed, built and cleaned to perfection. The attention to details takes this place to a whole new level. It was such a treat!
Our teenagers had the best time and still refer to our walks along the river as the best walk of their lives. The lake nearby was my favourite place.
I highly recommend Escape to Bohinj and hope to go back one day.”

“After many years of following project Bohing from Cambridge, it has been wonderful to come and experience it. The combination of relaxation and daily exertion has been the perfect way to celebrate a significant birthday and I leave feeling both rested and energised.
We have hiked and swum almost every day in glorious sunshine and high temperatures. We have eaten delicious food everywhere, highlights being dinner by the lake at Kramar, wild boar and raspberries at Pri Hrvatu in Srednja Vas (walkable in daytime but taxi preferable after dark), blueberry pie at Koča na Vojah, a meat feast at Gostilna Ema and a delicious 4-course birthday dinner at Majerca.
Two thrill-seekers went paragliding and the other two went in search of their 1970s childhood and fond memories of the Yugoslavian TV series “White Horses” – finding Icelandic ponies at Ranch Mrcina. Rob very kindly came to collect us since we had no transport and we had an idyllic two-hour early morning trek in the Senožeta.
Last, but not least, we thoroughly appreciated coming home to such a beautiful and thoughtfully considered house, with everything we could need. Thank you! We can’t wait to come back.”

“We recently returned from a fabulous stay at Escape to Bohinj. From start to finish Liz has been a total star, assisting with my endless questions and giving amazing tips and advice that helped make a holiday amazing. Danny sorted out a small problem we had so quickly and efficiently, thank you both for all your help :)
The house is absolutely amazing!! From the moment we set foot in it we felt at home. Liz and Danny have renovated it to such a high standard, every room is beautiful, it is a joy to stay there. Literally everything you could need has been thought of and is available at the house. Not having to take our own beach towels was such a help :)
Escape to Bohinj is made for relaxing in, I loved everything about it. From the HUGE attic master bedroom, beautifully done bathrooms, amazing kitchen and chilled living room to sitting out in the sun in the garden or on the front bench enjoying the peace and quiet and a coffee. Bliss!
Stara Fuzina is so pretty, everywhere you look is picture postcard. The two shops in the village have everything you need and the restaurant next door was lovely. The village held two fantastic evening events during our stay with live music, local food and craft stalls. Thank you Liz for letting us know about these evenings, we enjoyed them so much!!
From the house, we walked to the Mostinca Gorge, Ribcev Laz and of course the lake (numerous times)! We also visited the Vogel cable car, Bled (including the toboggans, so much fun), the panoramic boat across Bohinj and much more!! My absolute favourite thing was the total solitude in my early morning swim in the lake :)
All in all this has been one of our best family holidays ever and I would not hesitate to return or recommend Escape to Bohinj to anyone looking for an amazing holiday in a fabulous house in the best village in Bohinj.

“Highly recommended! What a find!
Our grown up children suggested a family holiday in Slovenia, somewhere we had never been before. Not knowing the area we consider ourselves SO VERY fortunate to have stayed at Escape to Bohinj. Right from the start the communication and booking process was excellent. Their own website is fantastic and provides excellent, informative, helpful, accurate information about the house and the area. As our holiday approached we had a few questions which were answered promptly and helpfully by Liz and Danny the owners. This helped to reassure us enormously.
On arrival in Slovenia we were impressed right from the start, a beautiful country. Excellent directions were sent to aid our journey to the house and as others have said, it is wonderful. The rooms are all a good size, tastefully designed, very clean, it felt a home from home. It is SO well equipped with everything you need and more ;e.g Tupperware and plastic cutlery for picnics, beach towels, tin foil & clingfilm, barbeque, books and maps. We enjoyed sitting in the garden in the evening.
The location of the house is ideal; next to the river in a stunningly beautiful village, a short walk to two convenience stores and a basic cafe popular with walkers and cyclists, and a 10min walk across the meadows to the lake. Many walks were available from the doorstep.
We drove to Bled ( 30mins), and Bovec for white water rafting ( an all day trip but so worth it, stunning scenery on a circular route including 52 hairpin bends on the Vrsic pass). Other days we did more local activities based on the lake, walking or climbing Vogel.
The holiday was EXCELLENT, lots of activities locally, perfect location, fantastic house, and exceptional communication from Liz. This rates as one of our best holidays, and we have travelled a lot!”

“Four days here was not nearly enough to do all the things we might have wanted to do. On our first day we had a very enjoyable walk around the lake, finishing with our daughter enjoying a refreshing swim in Lake Bohinj. The following day we headed up by the Mostnica Gorge to the hut by the Slap Mostnica. After some delicious strudel and coffee we decided to return by Planinska Koča na Uskovnici and down by Srednja vas. A steep climb but some lovely views down to the valley. We also visited Vintgar Gorge, taking the back road from Stara Fuzina, a very hilly road with lots of hairpin bends.
We hoped to have one final day in the mountains before we left, so headed to Bohinjska Bistrica and made the long but interesting climb up Crna Prst from Ravne. It was pleasant and cool for most of the way and on we enjoyed stopping of the huts the way up and down for much needed refreshments.
This has been a wonderfully spacious and well equipped holiday home. It would have been lovely to have stayed longer and explored more. Thanks to Danny and Liz for being so helpful in suggesting things to do.”

“From a small Medieval village in Carlingford, Ireland, we thought there was no prettier until we arrived at your lovely home in beautiful Bohinj. Your home is beautiful, every detail has been considered and finished with panache and style.

“Thank you for a wonderful stay here in Stara Fužina in your lovely house. Such a pretty, peaceful village in a gorgeous setting -we can understand why you fell in love with this area. We were totally enchanted by your wonderful holiday home and felt so comfortable and at home here.
Although the weather was not ideal (snow, sleet, rain), we managed a walk up to the Slap Savica waterfall, a boat trip and a walk along the lake – all beautiful! In terms of food, we had great meals at Foksner and Gostilna Pr’ Pristav in Polje. Special mention goes to Planina dom Savica, near the waterfall, for lovely food and friendly service on a cold, snowy day!
We will recommend Escape to Boling to friends and family. It really is a secret haven of comfort and respite in a beautiful part of Slovenia. Many thanks.”

“We absolutely loved our 4 night December 2023 stay at Escape to Bohinj. From the beginning Liz was very responsive to my many questions. We were lucky to have Danny and their daughter Izzy staying next door and their advice on hikes was invaluable.
The house is beautiful, large but also cozy with a wood burner stove and underfloor heating. It’s obvious how much care Danny and Liz put into the renovation.
We cooked dinner for 3 of our 4 nights and the kitchen is very well stocked. There’s a small supermarket walking distance from the house.
The 3 bedrooms are all large with very comfortable beds. Everything is very clean and well maintained. The surrounding area is stunning with beautiful hikes, from both the house and a short drive away.
It was by far the best accommodation of our 4 week European holiday and we hope to one day return.”

“My friends and I stayed at Liz & Danny’s beautifully restored Stara Fuzina house in early September. Liz was very responsive to any questions we had about the house and things to do in the area. It was by far the highlight of our Slovenia/Italy trip!!!
The house was very large, clean and well appointed. Very idyllic setting next to a bridge crossing a beautifully river. Every morning a cow bell could be heard due to a sweet old lady that would walk her cow to a nearby pasture over the bridge next to the house. So cool! We went swimming in Lake Bohinj, took the gondola/hiked Vogel and rode the Pletna boat to the church on Lake Bled.
I would highly recommend Liz & Danny’s house to a group of friends or families. There is a lot to do nearby and Slovenia is absolutely stunning!”

“The house is absolutely lovely. Very well located in an idyllic village, 10 minutes walk from Lake Bohinj.
The rooms are all super comfortable and the house is really well equipped with everything you need in the kitchen, plus board games, dvds, and books. Both bath towels and beach towels were provided which made packing much easier.
The location is perfect for exploring the area and there are several good cafes and restaurants in the village and nearby neighbouring villages.
Overall, we had a fantastic family holiday and the only downside was that we couldn’t stay longer.”

“The most wonderful house we’ve stayed in! This house is so well loved and lived in. Everything has been thought of to make sure you want for nothing (from gorgeous furniture and bedding to picnic blanket and water guns for the lake!)
The walk across the meadow to the lake was the perfect start and end to our days. The lake is so safe, never too busy and always lots of shade under the trees. “Escape to Bohinj house is definitely one of our favourite vacation rentals, and we’ve stayed in many. It felt like we were immersed in Slovenian life: vastly more enjoyable than a hotel room.
There’s an inn right next door serving meals if you don’t want to cook but if you DO want to cook, the kitchen has all you need (and more). There’s a side garden to enjoy a meal outdoors; two small grocery stores right across the bridge; a tourist info centre right around the corner. And if that all makes it sound like a busy area, it’s really not: the place was quiet and peaceful and we had tremendous sleeps.
Slovenians take recycling seriously, and Escape to Bohinj house has made it a breeze – everything labelled and separated for your easy disposal.
Probably the best aspect of the rental was Liz herself! We corresponded many times leading up to our trip, and she was beyond helpful and gracious with all the responses to our MANY queries. We hope to return to Slovenia and the Bohinj Valley, and we will definitely rent this house again if we do.”

“Liz’s & Danny’s Escape to Bohinj house was absolutely lovely. We were two couples but the house is spread over three floors and very comfortably sleeps six (two king beds and two singles).
It’s very obviously a place the owners use as well: the thoughtful layout including a toilet on each floor, the FULLY-equipped kitchen, the warm and cozy decor.
We stayed during a particularly rainy period, so didn’t get to do any of the hikes we had planned (the house is situated perfectly to take advantage of many hikes above the magical Bohinj Valley), but right from the house we explored other lower-altitude treasures like the Mostnica Gorge and the Bohinj Lake loop. And coming out of the rain into this beautiful home was a wonderful respite. If you’re looking for understated perfection in a mystical place, book the Escape to Bohinj house!”

“We stayed here in early September for a week and absolutely loved it! The house is beautiful, modern and tastefully renovated, yet sympathetic to its heritage. It is so spacious and has everything that is needed for a wonderful home away from home holiday at any time of the year. Stara Fužina is a lovely little village and a great base to visit Slovenia. We did not have a car but enjoyed walking and taking the local buses to and from all the amazing sites on our doorstep, finishing our days off with a swim in the most beautiful lake I’ve ever seen. Liz’s is a great communicator, passionate about Bohinj, and all their recommendations were on point, which made our first trip to Slovenia easy and very memorable.

“We stayed at Escape to Bohinj in July 2022 and had the most amazing week there. The house was the perfect base to explore the local area and to relax, swim, hire SUPs and eat lots of great food! It is such a spectacular part of the world- I’m so grateful we have discovered it. We aren’t usually ‘returners’- we like to discover new places- however, this house is one place that we would like to return to, and would return in a heartbeat if we could!
I have given the house 5 stars and would give more if I could. It is in the most wonderful location, with the village pub next door (and surprisingly never heard any noise) and a beautiful 10 minute walk through the village and meadows to the most beautiful lake. Next time we come, we’d like to hire bikes for the week. The house itself is stunning inside. Liz and Danny have thought of everything- the kitchen is well stocked, the beds are so comfortable and the towels and linen are of a really high quality. There are books and beach towels and games and information pamphlets about the local area- everything’s been thought of. We can’t wait to return!”

“Stayed for a week with friends. Lots of walking, running, cycling and chilling. Perfect location to decompress with beautiful scenery and a very well setup house. A very easy journey from Ljubliana airport and very good public transport connections. In particular the train from the next town over which went through the mountain was very well setup to take bikes!”

“My friends and I stayed for 6 wonderful nights at the house and had an amazing time. The house is in an ideal location right next to two shops, a restaurant, a bar, and only a 5 minute walk from Lake Bohinj.
There’s also lots to do in the area. We managed to fit in walks, a bike ride, lake swimming, and a trip to Ljubljana, however, in our 6 nights we only scratched the surface and will definitely be returning!”

We will really miss the mountainscapes from the many different windows, including the tiny ones in the loft. “I would thoroughly recommend Escape to Bohinj. The quality of accommodation, the stunning scenery, the climate and the wide range of activities make it a great place for a family holiday.
“We’re a family of four with two boys aged 12 and 14. We were looking for an active holiday with sunshine and water sports, but had found most Mediterranean destinations just too hot in July. Lake Bohinj fitted the bill perfectly, and Pr Méžnarjo provided the ideal base for a week’s stay.
“The accommodation is immaculate and spacious, with all the facilities to self-cater. The top floor room is enormous with fantastic views out to the mountains, and the body-hugging bed in the first floor double is worth fighting for when you arrive! We loved the walk down to the lake, hiring boats and bikes (all great value) and just enjoying the scenery and tranquillity. There are plenty of walking options too, and if you like a morning jog, the 12k loop of the lake will set you up perfectly for the day. All in all, a very special experience. We only wish we’d stayed longer!”

“On the first morning I woke @escapetobohinj, I lay in bed listening to the river flowing and instantly felt relaxed. I texted Liz and said, ‘as the river rushes by, I rush nowhere.’ The calm one feels from this home is priceless, especially when you have few precious days to holiday before hitting work again.
“This was our first time in Slovenia and, as a family of five on new turf, the logistics couldn’t have been easier. When you arrive at the house, you will see that no detail has been overlooked. The stunning design alongside perfect functionality only get the holiday vibes coming on quicker. Danny and Liz have prepared a comprehensive folder which answers literally every question we had as to where something might be, how it might work or where we might go.
“Ours was a sedentary holiday (brunch, an afternoon hike, reading, dinner… repeat) but there really is something for everyone in Bohinj. The lake water was crystal clear and unexpectedly warm. It’s also ‘engine free’ so we very much enjoyed paddle boarding and rowing with the stunning backdrop of the mountains, while others were paragliding, hiking and taking the cable car to higher heights.
