Hiking near Lake Bohinj
There are numerous hiking trails and walks around Lake Bohinj to suit all abilities. Enjoy a gentle walk along the shore of Lake Bohinj. Or maybe make a day of it and hike around the whole lake. Discover beautiful waterfalls with a hike up to the Savica Waterfall or the Mostnica Gorge. For those who are after a greater challenge, hike hut-to-hut in a multi-day trek culminating in an ascent of Mount Triglav, Slovenia’s highest peak at 2864m.
Lake Bohinj is in the Julian Alps in the Triglav National Park, an area filled with lakes, gorges, river, caves, waterfalls, alpine meadows, and high mountainous peaks. Walking and hiking opportunities abound. The local Tourist Information Centres are a great source of knowledge for all local walks, providing leaflets, expert guidance and a chance to buy local maps.

Walk around Lake Bohinj
A great way to get your bearings is to take the 12m trail around Lake Bohinj.

Peč Viewpoint
For the picture-perfect view over Lake Bohinj, take the 20 minute hike from Stara Fužina up to the Peč viewpoint.
Savica Waterfall
Allow 25 minutes to hike the 550-steps to the famous Savica Waterfall though the well-marked forest path.
Mostnica Gorge
A low-level walk through the forest with impressive rock formations and crystal-clear water.
Rudnica
Hike up from Stara Fužina through forests, pastures and flower meadows for a fabulous view over Lake Bohinj.
Vogar
A steep 45 minute ascent offers superb views over the Bohinj valley and some light refreshments.
Studor
Another steep climb offers views down the entire length of Lake Bohinj. A hike where you might not see another soul!
Uskovnica
A nice extension to the to the Studor walk, with the added bonus of visiting a mountain hut for refreshments.
Pršivec
Hike up to the highest peak on the northern ridge of the lake and enjoy stunning views around the Julian Alps.
Komna
Challenge yourself hiking up the Komarča wall and visit the famous Črno jezero (Black Lake).

Hiking Seasons
Peak season for hiking in the Julian Alps is between May and October. Low-level walks are available all year round, unless, of course, there has been heavy snowfall. In fact, expert mountaineers climb the high peaks throughout the winter.

The Bohinj area hosts the Wild Flower Festival in May/early June and the Hiking Festival in the autumn. Both events offer a diverse range of talks and activities for the whole family.
