Vogar Hike
Hike up Vogar for a wonderful viewpoint high above the north-eastern end of Lake Bohinj. It is one of the main take-off points for the paragliders that you see flying above the lake.
The hike is steep, but well worth the effort. It is thrilling to watch the paragliders take off from the grassy bank and soar high into the sky. A little further on, a mountain hut offers lunch, snacks, drinks and another amazing viewpoint – what more could you ask for? In summer, hike up to Vogar during the cooler morning for some lunch and then return to the shore of lake Bohinj for some afternoon fun in the water.

Vogar Hike Directions
From Escape to Bohinj in the middle of Stara Fužina, cross the bridge and turn right, following the Mostnica river upstream. The road crosses back over the river – turn left shortly afterwards and after crossing the leat on the road, cross back over it again on the small pedestrian bridge. This leat is the same one which flows past Escape to Bohinj, and which until just a few years ago powered a sawmill behind the house. Follow the leat to its source, and take the steep path up to the right to join a forest track above.
Head left, cross over Hudičev Most (Devil’s Bridge) and continue up the track, forking left after ~100m. This path takes you to a small paved road, which you cross over, turning right then left back onto a footpath across a field and into the forest.
It’s a steep climb up through the forest, marked by the typical red circle surrounding a white spot, and signposts. The path was previously roughly paved by large boulder slabs. Although some of these are still in place, it is quite bumpy where they have become dislodged.
As you get close to the top, you will see a sign post to the paragliding launch site on the left. The view appears quite suddenly, with a panorama over Lake Bohinj and down to Stara Fužina below. This is where you can enjoy watching the paragliders take off. If you have ever want to fly like a bird, this must be one of the best places to try. What an amazing view!
If you’re feeling energetic (or hungry) head a little further up the path to the Kosijev dom na Vogarju. This mountain hut offers refreshments, and you can sit down, relax and enjoy the wonderful views all around. Expect to find traditional mountain stews, strudel and of course Slovene beers Laško & Union.
Walk through the grassy area by the hut to head to discover another fabulous view over Lake Bohinj. This is signposted “razglednik” – viewpoint.
If you’re an early bird, Vogar is a fabulous spot to watch the sunsrise. It’s magical, especially if followed by nutella-filled pancakes for breakfast at the mountain hut!
