Lake Bohinj Boat
One of the most delightful ways to experience Lake Bohinj and the Triglav National Park is to take the tourist boat across the lake. Go on a bright, sunny day and you will be rewarded with Instagram-worthy photos of the Julian Alps reflected in the crystal-clear water.
There are two boats that run on the lake, one called Zlatorog, after the mythical golden-horned chamois, the other called the Triglav Rose. The boats are powered by electricity and are silent, so you can really sit back and enjoy the peace and beauty of the area.
Location Map for the Lake Bohinj Boat
Departing from Ribčev Laz
The Lake Bohinj Boat departs from the village of Ribčev Laz, at the eastern end of the lake, and takes you down to Ukanc at the western end. You can purchase tickets in advance from the kiosk (a good idea at peak times). The electric boat glides silently across the lake, whilst the captain talks, in English and Slovene, about the history of the boat, the lake and geology of the surrounding area.
The ride takes about 30 minutes. Once you reach Ukanc, the boat docks in the grounds of the Zlatorog campsite, where there is a café offering refreshments.
Arriving in Ukanc
Once you get off the boat, you can wander around the hamlet of Ukanc. There are a few lovely beaches here for relaxing and swimming, and the ever-popular pier provides a great focal point for photos across the lake.
Alternatively, take the Lake Bohinj Cable Car up to Vogel Ski Center for amazing views over the lake and the Julian Alps. Or be hike up to walk up to Slap Savica, one of the most famous waterfalls in Slovenia.
The boat returns to Ribčev Laz on the same route. If you are feeling more energetic, the walk back along the quiet, northern shore of Lake Bohinj takes 1h30-2h00. It is worth the effort!
Timetable for the Lake Bohinj Boat
